Hamble Lifeboat celebrated its 30th
Anniversary in the year 2000. A group of
local residents, anglers, and boating
enthusiasts formed the service in response
to an increasing number of accidents and
fatalities in the Hamble, Southampton Water
and mid Solent areas.
As an independent lifeboat service, licensed
by the MCA, Hamble Lifeboat has a Board of
Trustees that administers the charity. A
management committee reports to the Board of
Trustees under the leadership of Trevor Wood
and is responsible for all the operational
aspects of the service and for raising the
majority of funds from local sources.
Built to Lloyd’s A100 specification, the
latest boat [Harry Childs] is one of the
most modern and sophisticated marine search
& rescue boat of its kind in the area.
Powered by twin 330 hp IVECO turbo-charged
diesel engines driving Castoldi 238 water
jets the Pacific 32 RIB has a total bollard
pull of two tons. By using water jets and
having a draught of only one metre, the boat
can work in shallow waters and is able to
run at a speed of 38 knots for up to eight
hours. As well as having an offshore
capability, the boat’s commercial license
allows for a crew of three and up to
twenty-five survivors.
